BENCH SCALE TRIALS (CSTR)
What is BENCH SCALE TRIALS (CSTR)?
We provide bench-scale Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR) testing services in the 5-10 L range, as well as a pilot CSTR unit with a 260 L working volume. Our experience designing and building bioreactors over the years has given us the advantage of equipping our lab with a variety of bench-scale anaerobic digester systems and tip-meter designs.
Our lab’s previous experience with aerobic bioreactor designs has included:
- Air biofilter systems for biodegrading organic vapours - full scale
- Algae perfusion chambers for growth studies on rare species - bench scale
- Photobioreactors for axenic algae and duckweed production - pilot scale
- Multiphase in-situ soil bioremediation systems - full scale
Analytical resources are immediately available to closely monitor CSTR trials which can be particularly useful when testing novel feedstocks or potentially toxic substrates. Experienced staff are on hand to interpret monitoring data to quickly avert process crashes. CSTR trials are managed as Contract R&D projects usually lasting 3 to 16 months.
Our in-house R&D program focuses on designing improved lab CSTR systems, establishing new analytical procedures, and bioprospecting for novel anaerobic microbiomes.
