Since the very beginning in 1977, our integrated approach to investigating biologically oriented technical issues has been the key to our success in various projects. They have included underwater biological studies, air biofilter designs, bioremediation, microbial detection, pathogen destruction, and analytical methods for analyzing biodigester processes. 

Since 1981, our continuous involvement in microbiological and R&D projects led to the development of our own in-situ bioremediation and air biofilter systems, as well as sterilization technologies and the establishment of an accredited microbiology and pathogen testing lab.

In 2009, we began testing anaerobic digester (AD) feedstocks and digestate for biogas industry clients. The interdisciplinary nature of this work suited us well, and ever since we have continued to grow our testing capacity and the diversity of testing procedures we offer.

Our approach minimizes analytical costs by providing the most practical testing procedures and advising clients in the selection of tests relevant to their needs, including customized analytical procedures.

Integrated Explorations Inc. began as an aquatic ecology and impact assessment company providing biological consulting, lab testing, and scientific survey diving services locally in Ontario, Canada. The company name, Integrated Explorations, reflects our multidisciplinary approach to investigating and solving environmental problems.

Today, we are a full-service lab with a comprehensive range of testing capabilities for analyzing anaerobic digesters. Truly, a one-stop shopping service offering prompt client assistance with same-day quotes and a quick turnaround time. Staff are readily available to discuss test selection or review and interpret results for clients.

We provide routine analytical services at an accredited level through our associate labs and use our own internal standard methods for research purposes. Our internal lab Quality Control Program is based on our experience having established accredited food pathogen testing facilities under ISO17025. This lab has maintained a Biohazard Level 2 lab certification since 2006, enabling it to receive pathogenic samples, soils, and biosolids for analysis. This was key in allowing our lab to engage in COVID-19 PCR testing for several years during the pandemic.

Our BMP (Biochemical Methane Potential or Biomethane Potential) testing protocol achieved certification in 2024 after participation in an international interlaboratory proficiency testing program hosted by the Aarhus University in Denmark. After having conducted this test for over 15 years, we welcomed this added confirmation of our lab’s expertise in running this test.

As we continue to develop new and improved testing methods and explore novel biotreatment processes, we are securing our position as a long-term participant in the advancement of the bioenergy and biotechnology sectors well into the future.
